there is few warhammer 40,000 armies that get the same amount as flack as the Tau. Yeah there is plenty of ultramarine and dark angels memes. Tau they just get hate for many reasons, their anime inspired style, and lack of melee weapons. Here I am thinking what would be good way too start a tau army.
First to get the combat patrol box, the Tau combat patrol box is one of the best looking combat patrol boxes with the ghost keel battlesuit. A great looking centrepiece for your army, and a wonderful figure to build you army around. Getting more than one you still end up with free stealth suits. Even if you are planning to use a farsight conclave force you are still getting a decent saving before the ethereal.
In the combat patrol box you get, ethereal, cadre fireblabe, ten pathfinders, stealth battlesuits, the ghost keel, and of course of the drones that these models comes with. It is a pretty hefty box. A enormous saving of £53.
So once you have that box built, what next.
You'll need another objective holding unit, but instead of pathfinders build yourself some firewarriors. With some transport to back them up, I know devil fish are not the greatest vehicle. You need something in between melee units and what ever unit is holding forward objectives. Adding speed to the unit too, the devilfish looks pretty cool that doesn't hurt either.
Of course the hammerhead has become an auto add, with that insane rail gun. This is another reason for ghostkeel, it is a large model and works as visual distraction. So that the weak base of the rail gun, the tau tank should not be too much of a bullet magnet.
Next would be some battle suits for that elite, unit. These are another great looking unit, their jet packs make them a fast unit. They have some great fire power, for heavy units and heavy infantry.
If you are going all tau, your only choice for fast attack is pirahnas, but I love how vespids look. As I wanted to show how to make a full tau army pirahnas are the way I would go. Also the pirahna is cheaper financially. The pirahna is a good looking model and has some decent armaments for heavy infantry.
So should you get another hq choice, as you have two in the combat patrol box? Yeah the they both look pretty good, but I would drop the fireblade for a commander or named character, unless you are doing farsight conclave then drop the ethereal for farsight.
