Vanguard, Mantics Answer to Warcry

ree

On the tabletop, there are plenty of big battle games. Me I love small team skirmish games. Such as kill team, war cry, and now vanguard. Vanguard is the kings of war, a version of war cry. (Kind of).

Anarrative-based game set in on Pannithor. Hey look I am learning about the lore now. So what is in the box well it's two forces, Basilean and Nightstalkers. Basileans are the human faction and night stalkers are what chaos wish they were, and what order of death only dream of being.

What is in the box? Ok ready there is a lot of different models.

Basilean dictator, banshee, paladins or chaplain, sisterhood and sisterhood scout, gur panther, butcher, horror, reaper, phantom, shadow hound, scarecrows or specters, men at arms Sgt or veteran Sgt, and men at arms or crossbowmen. That is twenty-two miniatures in total and so many different types as well. You get the starting booklet this is where the rules for the two factions are this time not they are not in the rule book. You get dice 8-sided and power. A tape measure, a really good one too this thing is chunky, and finally the rule book. The rule book is not the height of most rule books but is a hefty one at 150 pages.

So what are the models like, once again they are gorgeous sculpts, the Nightstalkers look terrifying and Basileans are very noble. My favourite in the box is the banshee. The Lovecraftian look, this thing is what you see before you die. There is no way you can ever think, hey these nightsalkers have a point. The designers have managed to sculpt horror in the night stalkers. Well done. As the basileans, they look really nice, not my cup of tea when it comes to fantasy. I can't complain, they look really good.

The rule book, has lore in it this time. Where the rule book in the kings of war boxes don't. Vanguard is a narrative game. So actually knowing some lore is more of a necessity. It is good, i like (so I am going to talk about nightstalkers more ok basilean fans, sorry but I really like them). the nightstalkers. Where some elves, dabbled where they ought not be, and released nightmarish creatures upon pannithor. The fire and ice expansion is included in the vanguard rule book too. It's like a game of year edition.

What is it like to play, vanguard is more complicated than kings of war, with more moving pieces. Which is going to be the case in games like this. Where it is more about single miniature units rather than, whole block of units. I like it, in my games, i used night stalkers and the ratkins from the kings of war box.

So is the box worth getting? Yeah i really think so, vanguard is great box. With so many different models. That is why I love about games like vangaurd, it gives you a chance try forces without shelling out a huge heap of money on them first. You can also build forces that are more personal to you. There are still force restrictions.

Great box, mantic have put in everything you need. Also last thing a tape measure, not a plastic book mark, or whippy stick. A proper measuring tape and it is chunky as all heck.
