Skaven Vanguard Box vs Ratkin Army Deal

there are two starter army boxes, that are so alike it's crazy. This is the skaven vanguard box for warhammer age of sigmar, and the ratkin army deal for kings of war. Both are obviously anthromorphisised rats. Yet out of the two companies I don't think I have seen two boxes that are so alike in contents. So which is better, let's take a look at these two boxes and compare them.

Price, the skaven vanguard box has one grey seer, one warp lightning cannon or plague claw, twenty clan rats and three stormfiends, for £80. Twenty five models wth some variation with the stormfiends havinng enough bits to make ranged and melee units, and of course the the warp lightning cannon, being able to make that and the plague claw catapult.

The Ratkin army box has one swarm crier, six night mares, one night terror, forty warriors, and four plague pots. So fifty models in total for £70. the nightmares and night terrors do have ability to be made as veer myn for fire fight. If that is your plan then I would spend the extra £5 and get the veer myn strike force, it is a lot better. Ratkin and veer myn do share many models. Which is a cool bonus.

Being ten pound less mantic wins the first round.

Value for money is percentage saved, not price per model. The reason for this is, these boxes are money saving deals. If box has many models and you are only saving 5% then you could probably just buy the boxes individually minus what you don't need and spend less money.

So skaven vanguard price break down is

grey seer, £16

stormfiends, £42.50

clan rats, £26

warp lightning cannon £24

a grand total of £108.50 a saving of £28.50 or 26.3% so quite low for most games workshop strting boxes as they are usually in the 30% range.

40 ratkin warriors and 4 plague pots £45

night terror is £12.50

6 night mares, they come in packs of four for £18 so add another £9 to make up the extra half a box. We have £27

swarm crier is £10

a total of £94.50 a £24.50 saving or a 25.9% saving.

Games workshop chips in with a slightly better saving. I know it is perdantic to go in to decimal with the savings. I think it is important to get an accurate result.

Finally style, how good each box looks. Both these boxes are so similar in content. With both having giant rat ogre looking creatures. A good block of warriors and a spell caster. With an additional heavy as well. In the shape of the night terror and the warp lightning cannon.

It the variety that the storm fiends and the warp lightning cannon brings, that gives games workshop skaven vanguard the win. The mantic ratkin warriors do look better than the skaven clan rats. There is forty of them here and just infantry can be tedious. The warp lighning cannon being two kits in one make it a more adaptable box, also with the storm vermin being able to be both melee and range. This just adds versatility to the box.
