The new leagues of votann box has been leaked, supposedly. It is photo from the codex, so it is highly likely to be the combat patrol box.
This box is far superior to the army box. Let me explain why. The army set had.
– 1x Ûthar the Destined, who can also be built as a Kâhl
– 1x Einhyr Champion
– 3x Hernkyn Pioneers
– 20x Hearthkyn Warriors
The problem is that there is not much variety and with two hq and two troop choices. For a starter army it covers only half the unit types. With fast attack and troops, and twenty of one type makes a new army to paint, tedious. Let alone two hq choices.
This combat patrol answers both these issues, in this box it seems you get.
– 1x Einhyr Champion
– 3x Hernkyn Pioneers
– 10x Hearthkyn Warriors
- 5x Berzerks with a mole cannon.
So there is 6 models less, but you are replacing warriors for an elite choice. This means if you are making a well rounded army, you only need to make a single purchase. This will cover all your bases. troops, elites, fast attack, and heavy support. It is far more varied than the army set. Not just in unit type, but models as well. You have the fully armoured warriors, next to the bikes, next to unshirted bezerks.
This league of votan box, also delivers on the full range of combat for warhammer 40,000. You have range and brutal melee. The mole cannon looks like it will provide some decent heavy support too.
As for the saving, I obviously don't know but I'll go on my last estimates. Heartkyn warriors £32.50, Hermkyn Pioneers £35, Einhyr champion £25, and berzerks at £35 also. £127.50 saving you £37.50 about right for a combat patrol box.
So yes this box is far better than the army set, it has more variety in model, unit type, and game play. It doesn't drown you with a large amount of a single model type. You still get a decent number of models to go with it.
