Getting Started With High Elves Warhammer the Old World

With all the races in all the fantasy and science fiction. My absolute favourite is elves, high elves, blood elves, wood elves, aeldari, drukhari, you get the picture. I always run an aeldari army in very edition of warhammer 40,000. I ran a dark elf force back in warhammer fantasy battles sixth edition and it was so fun. Even when I played world of warcraft, I roled a blood elf rogue and got him to level 100 before I stopped playing. I got most of the malus dark blades missing two graphic novels, I read all the malekith, and love the warcraft sunwell trilogy manga. So yeah you can say I have a love for those pointy eared faerfolk.

Which is why I want to talk about, high elves. With warhammer the old world, and age off sigmar there is two ways you can go about forming your starter high elf force. First is lumineth realm lords. These are the more extravagent and expnsive high elve. They look cool don't get me wrong. I would only choose the ones from the realmlords that you can not get from the cities of sigmar. Yeah the other way is cities of sigmar.

for clarity I am using, the last three high elves warhammer army books, and the last three warhammer fanatasy battle rule books. Literally the last three of each.

As this is hopefully a channel dedicated to saving money, I will focus on the ones that can be kitbashed from cities of sigmar, than the ones that come from the realm lords.

With no vanguard or start collecting boxes yet. We have to go with individual boxes. First stop is your core choice, and this will depend on how much converting you want to do or how much you want to spend. say very little but want to spend more, and also have more options. The eternal guard, trim or paint any unwanted wood elf iconography. The eternal guard box will save you £7.50 if you were to go realm lord equal. The other method will take more work and that is the dark elf spearmen box. This will save you a further £4. That is one core choice you are going to need another. So it would be another box of what you chose to make a second spear unit. The two ranks for fighting, are great for tying up units in close combat. You can go for the lumineth models if you want, but as I said they are going to cost you more. You do have the advantage of bowmen as a core unit doing it this way.

Next is special units, here would be a box of shadow warriors, well two as you can also use bits to make sisters of avelorn. So here are your range units and elves are great at range combat. The shadow warriors are also very good in close combat. With their bows hitting on (or used to hit on) 2+. Then always hitting first in close combat, with a weapon skill of 5. Finally for your special choices a box of phoenix guard. With their heavy armour, and halberds, great to make sure no one shoots your archers. Same with spear men too.

Finally as rare unit sisters of avelorn, they look good and give you a ton of spare bits to kit bash your spearmen from wood or dark elf looking into noble high elves. They have flaming attacks great against trolls and routing buildings, and they give a -1 to the armour save of orcs and goblin. Given the time frame of the old world. That will come in very handy.

The basis of this force is duality, you have the spearmen and phoenix guard to make sure that nothing gets through to the shadow warriors and sisters of avelorn. You have the shadow warriors and sisters of avelorn to whittle down the numbers of the models that ar going to be engaged by the spearmen and phoenix guard.

So now the hero or lord choice, what else but an archmage on a dragon, elves are magical anyway so take advantage of that in your lord. With successful casts, he will get a +1 to his ward save and the dragon gets that boost too. So with up to a 3= ward save on a dragon, will make him a beast (pun intended) in combat and that breath attack. A nice way to round off your high elf army. Edit Kitbashing the dark elf dragon as games workshop don't do the high elf one anymore
