When a company announces a small starter set which that gives you the very basic to play. I get kind of excited because it means I don't have to buy a starter set with at least one faction I have little interest in. Today mantic announced an Armada taster set, the set includes:
1 x resin orc Bloodrunner
1 x resin Basilean Gur Panther
1 x Armada Rulebook and Token Set
1 x exclusive play mat with rules reference (70cm x 70cm)
1 x Armada dice set
Exactly what is needed to start playing mantic's naval tabletop game, then you can get the faction you want. So instead of buying the £87.50 starter set and then £40 on the faction, you like starter fleet. That is you do not want an orc or Basilean fleet. You spend £70 and get your favourite fleet and everything you need to play too. A saving of £57.50.

Here is the catch though, it is a limited edition set. I personally hope that is because mantic is testing the water (pun absolutely intended). To see if it is worth producing more, and to get more players into Armada.
I hope like warcradle's rules and gubbins sets for their games. The Armada taster set becomes a permanent addition to mantic's lineup. Then hopefully vanguard and deadzone get the same treatment. The one thing I know for sure is: Mantic games are always a blast to play. These simple starter sets are the best way to get players interested.
