Games Workshop Have a Chaos Problem.

The new chaos space marine combat patrol box, highlights a big issue with games workshop.

In the new box, you get a dark apostle, 10 chaos space marines, 5 havocs and a helbrute. As a starting box. It is really good. There is plenty of models to build and paint, but not so many that they would get tiresome. You can kit bash, make some favourite instead of the havocs. Same with the dark apostle, that can also kit bash that in to a chaos lord. As far as the combat patrol boxes go it really is one of the best. Varied models and they are versatile too. The problem is not the price and value of the box. The box is £90 and the contents are valued at £130. So a £40 saving all this is good. The average saving an above-average box.

Until you look at the start collecting chaos space marine box. In this you got or could get as it is still available in stores. Once it is gone it will be gone. Same online third party stores too. As I was saying in this box you got, lord of possession, 10 chaos space marines monopose, 2 greater possessed, 2 obliterators, and a venom crawler. This was £65 and again the contents are valued at around £130. I could say, look same value for less. Games workshop is ripping you off. I am not, the problem is once these boxes are sold. Those models are no longer available. Which is a crying shame, they are really good-looking models.

The space marines got their half of shadow spear in a combat patrol box, so why not chaos. This is the problem. Models no longer exist, good models too. Not models being updated like the possessed. Models that have come in starter kits, that no longer exist. Another is the lord of contagion, from the dark imperium and know no fear boxes. A lot of the models from those two boxes are now gone. Like the primaris marine ancient, as well.

The contents of dark imperium split in two, to make either cheap starter kits or new combat patrol boxes by adding a vehicle as well. Which games workshop have done now twice. Once with space marines from shadow spear and again by reusing the special edition sisters of battle sprues.

Some get new models like the ancient and the gravis captain, others get lost in the dust like the venom crawler and lord of contagion. It also looks like they aren't really updating the chaos models from these kits. We haven't got a venom crawler in its own box yet. This means there are going to be four datasheets in the new codex that will be unused or worse they will remove them altogether and try to make us forget they existed.

Right now I would love to see a second space marine combat patrol box or even better a word bearer one. With the shadow spear half plus a vehicle even if it is just a rhino. Before you go he is being entitled remember space marines have 6 combat patrol boxes. So seeing the same amount for chaos space marines isn't a stretch.
