Chaos, the ones that are meant to be the big bad of Warhammer 40k. Games workshop seems to be somewhat lacklustre with the traitors. Especially when compared to their loyalist counterparts. So here are five times chaos fans got the short end of the stick. Next week the imperiums turn
Number 5
The codices. I’m not going to stop harping on about this. When the deathguard codex lost pages while it gained new models, and adeptus custodes became a larger codex and got the same number of new models. Let alone that the new world eater codex is the same size as the space wolf supplement. World eaters codex is far more expensive too. Over a tenner more.
Number 4
The combat patrol boxes of the traitors marines are some of the worst, and unlike the loyal ones are stuck to a single legion. This means any loyal space marine chapter has up to five combat patrol boxes. Chaos space marines one each. That’s not the worse part. There is one combat patrol that is not full of cultists or cultists like models. The normal chaos space marine box. It has legionaires, havocs, dark apostles, and a helbrute. Death guard has 30 poxwalkers, thousand sons 20 tzaangors, and even the new world eaters box is not immune with jakhals. Imagine the loyal boxes just padded with scouts. Same thing.
Number 3
The extra cost, back to the codices for this one. Let’s say you want some cult marines, you know a squad of plague marines. Instead of having that data sheet in the normal codex like every codex prior. You must buy the death guard codex. A full priced codex for a single data sheet. Leaving the rest of the codex obsolete. This could be almost an extra £100 before the models just for three extra squads. Of course there is the first born models from the horus heresy being up to 50% off.
Number 2
The model choice, space marines get over 50 more unit choices including the extra from the noncodex compliant chapters and named characters. Then traitor marines. This is not including the extra tanks and models available for horus heresy, that can be used in 40k. Such as the 4 armour types. Even if you add daemons, knights, and traitor legions such as death guard. You don’t come near the number of space marine units. Again this before you add the tanks from horus heresy.
Number 1
The biggest difference and where chaos really get the shaft is faction choices. Even in horus heresy they get less choices. So chaos get the 9 legions and their offshoots in 4 codices, the daemons, and chaos knights. Imperium get Get the 9 loyal legions and successor chapters in 2 codices and 5 supplements, sisters of battle, adeptus custodes, imperial knights, mechanicum, inquisition/ agents of the imperium, and of course the astra militarum. Each with a codex and their own lesser subfactions.
